# Imaging the Illumina Optical Target

If you are evaluating a microscope for use with the Illumina Spatial Transcriptome Assay, it is recommended that the microscope first undergo the Optical Target Test. This test involves capturing images of the Illumina Bright Field (BF) Optical Target using the intended 20X objective lens and specific camera, and uploading those images into the Illumina Spatial Image Tool (ISIT) software.

For detailed instructions on imaging the Illumina BF Optical Target slide and preparing for the microscope assessment, refer to the Illumina Spatial Transcriptome Assay Product Documentation. Once imaging is complete, proceed with the [Microscope Assessment](/dragen-stratamap/illumina-spatial-image-tool/optical-target-test/microscope-assessment.md) workflow in ISIT.

Note: The Optical Target Test is specifically designed for microscopes and is not applicable to slide scanner imaging systems.
