# Variant tags

The Variant tags card allows organizations to add and delete custom [variant tags](https://help.connected.illumina.com/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/variant_page/variant_tagging_widget).

Only users with the **Manager edit variant tag** role can add and delete variant tags.

Every time a tag is added or deleted, the system records it in the [Activity log](https://help.connected.illumina.com/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/getting_around_the_platform/cases_tab/case_details/activity).

## Add a variant tag

In the Variant tags card, click **Add new.**

Enter a name for the new tag.

Click **Save** to confirm.

## Delete a variant tag

Click the **Delete** icon next to the tag you want to remove.

Confirm by clicking **Delete** in the dialog box.

Tags that are already in use and default tags provided by the system cannot be deleted.
