# Configuring an organization database

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Upon request, **Illumina Support** [**provisions**](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/settings/organization_settings_-330+/workbench-and-pipeline/organization-db-management/configuring-an-organization-database/creating-a-database-vcf-file/creating-an-internal-database-vcf-file.md) **the internal database** VCF file from the customer’s cases based on supplied requirements.

Alternatively, the **customer** [**creates**](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/settings/organization_settings_-330+/workbench-and-pipeline/organization-db-management/configuring-an-organization-database/creating-a-database-vcf-file/creating-an-external-database-vcf-file.md) **an external database** VCF file and provides it to Illumina Support for upload.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Illumina Support stores the database in the customer’s secure bucket.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
The user with appropriate [permissions](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/settings/user_roles/iam-scopes-emedgene-roles.md) [**registers**](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/settings/organization_settings_-330+/workbench-and-pipeline/organization-db-management/configuring-an-organization-database/registering-a-database.md) the database by selecting it from their bucket in Settings.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Once registered, the database appears in the Organization Databases list. From here, the customer can [**tune settings**](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/settings/organization_settings_-330+/workbench-and-pipeline/organization-db-management/configuring-an-organization-database/modifying-database-settings.md):

* **Enable or disable** its use in [variant annotation](/emedgene/emedgene-analyze-manual/tertiary-analysis-pipeline/annotations-from-organization-databases.md).
* **Enable or disable** allele frequency usage by AI Shortlist for variant prioritization.
  {% endstep %}
  {% endstepper %}
