Overview

Connected Insights uses Genome Equivalent Samples (GEs) for analysis. GEs are required to start working in Connected Insights and are deducted when a case is ingested and analyzed. No additional deductions occur when a report is generated or when cases are reanalyzed or merged.

GEs and portions of a GE are used during the analysis process and are represented by the following categories:

  • Small Panel — Samples with less than 150 genes (DNA or DNA and RNA) or standalone RNA samples of any size. A small panel analysis uses one-sixth of a GE.

  • Large Panel — Samples with more than 150 genes (DNA or DNA and RNA). A large panel analysis uses one-third of a GE.

  • Exome — Whole exome sequencing samples. An exome analysis uses one-half of a GE.

  • Genome — Whole genome sequencing samples. A genome analysis uses one GE.

For example, one GE is used when running an analysis of a WGS sample, and portions of a GE are used to process samples generated with targeted panels and WES.

Connected Insights - Cloud uses iCredits for data storage with ICA. For more information on iCredits, refer to the ICA online help.

GE and iCredit Balances

For Connected Insights - Cloud, GE and iCredit balances are monitored through the Administration Console. For more information on the functions of the Administration Console, refer to the BaseSpace Sequence Hub online help and ICA online help.

For Connected Insights - Local, GE balance notifications display on the Cases page when the balance falls below 50%, 10%, or reaches 0. If you have used your balance, you can continue to work on existing cases, but new case ingestion is stopped.

If you need to add more GEs, contact your administrator or the Illumina sales team.
